A guy who used to come to one of my home groups but drifted away from AA has been found dead in a horrible death.
Just one of the 5,000 people who’ll make up the statistic this year for deaths in the UK due to alcohol abuse. And he had it – he had sobriety and let it slip away. A friend who is struggling again having picked up recently was quiet upset last night as he knows that if he doesn’t get the message he may join that number too…
A very horrible by very blunt and strong reminder that no one can take alcoholism lightly.
Glad to day to simply be sober
Me too.
So sorry this happened, but it is a good reminder for those of us left behind.
A friend of mine had a friend who died after a binge drinking session. Seems to be popular or thought of as trendy these days to drink with friends until you’re blind drunk and pass out, except sometimes your brain never wakes up. In her case the brain was so affected by alcohol that respiration stopped. She wasn’t a alcoholic, just went out to “party” on the weekend with friends. I didn’t know the girl and the horror of it stays in my mind.
It’s a good reminder not to let anything take over your body to such extremes.
